STORY

Owner Nadja Renise

I’m Nadja Renise, and my hair growth journey started after my hair fell out three different times 😩 from:

  • A sew-in that snatched my edges (Traction Alopecia)

  • Postpartum shedding that led to a big chop

  • And stress from a toxic relationship

The first time it happened, I was devastated. My first sew-in and last relaxer left me with my edges snatched, from having my hair pulled too tight, and broken confidence. I’ll never forget sitting in that salon chair holding back tears while another client made a song about my missing edges 😭 (yes, a whole song ask me about it one day, I still remember every word).

I was embarrassed but determined. So, I went back to what my mother and grandmother taught me about herbs and plant-powered healing. I mixed oils in my kitchen 👩🏾🍳 and applied them morning and night. Over time my hair grew back fuller and stronger than ever. That kitchen mix became Flower Bomb Rapid Rejuvenation Oil 🌺 the product that started it all.

Then came baby #2 🤰🏾👶🏾. Between postpartum shedding, sleepless nights, and mom life chaos, I felt anything but beautiful. My hair was shedding, my confidence was fading, and YouTube was giving me more frustration than answers. One day, I dropped the kids off, walked into a salon, and big chopped my shoulder-length hair. When my family saw me later, the looks on their faces said it all shock, surprise, and confusion.

The final straw came after an unhealthy relationship that drained me mentally, emotionally, and physically. 💔 My anxiety was high, my weight was even higher and to top it all off my hair began to fall out, again. My body was a physical reflection of the stress I was carrying. My self-esteem was shattered, my confidence gone.

So I went back to the kitchen. Back to my roots. I created more products that helped me do my hair faster, grow my hair longer, heal my scalp, and rebuild my confidence. Everyone who tried the products were obsessed, and just like that, FEMME NOIRE was born. A brand created to honor and celebrate the beauty, strength, and softness of Black women.

Oh, and fun fact: FEMME NOIRE literally means Black Woman in French. ✨

These products have grown my hair, boosted my confidence, grown my daughters kinky coarse hair to waist length and helped thousands of other black women grow their hair.

Celebrity actress and producer, Issa Rae even named us her #2 Black Owned Business to shop with!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My products honor our HAIRitage without compromising our health. I hand select plant based ingredients 🌿 that don’t harm our bodies. Why?  We deserve products that are healthy and most products for black women are linked to cancer.

Fast forward to today… my journey has evolved, and so has my hair.

After years of wearing a twist out, I found freedom in microlocs, a style that’s low-maintenance, elegant, and looks good on all of us. Microlocs gave me the balance I’d been craving: the beauty of natural hair with the simplicity of a set-it-and-forget-it lifestyle.

Now, I help women just like you experience that same freedom through microloc installs, microloc maintenance, and growth-focused care designed for healthy, flourishing locs. In 2025 I opened a Microloc Salon in Jackson, MS.

FEMME NOIRE has grown from a kitchen dream to a movement helping women grow, restore, and fall in love with their hair again. 💗

I believe locs are feminine, beautiful, and symbolic, a reflection of our strength, softness, and story. FEMME NOIRE was created to honor that. Every product is plant-powered, cruelty-free, vegan, and handcrafted to protect your crown, without the harsh chemicals that harm us.

FEMME NOIRE isn’t just about products it’s a movement for Black women ready to feel soft, confident, and seen. 💗

My mission? To help you feel confident and irresistible from the boardroom to the bedroom. 💋

    xo,

    Nadja Renise

I believe locs are seductive, mysterious and deeply connected to the beauty, peace and essence of a woman.

I honor black women, the ones who pour endlessly into others yet crave a place to exhale, be pampered, sip a glass of wine and laugh with friends.

I refuse to define women by hairstyles or perpetuate the belief that locs aren't feminine.

I won’t glamorize complex beauty routines or toxic ingredients disguised as self-care.

I create simple plant-powered solutions that make caring your your microlocs and nurturing your hair growth simple and sustainable.

I choose love in every loc, every woman, every moment
