5 Secrets To Winter Hair Care
As the warm months fade away and cold weather sets you’ll need to change more than your wardrobe, it’s just as important to change up your hair care regimen. Keep your curls sexy and moisturized this winter by “winterizing” your hair. Discover our 5 secrets for winterizing your kinky, curly hair.
1. Say No To Wash ‘N Go’s
It’s always a good idea to steer away from wash n go’s during cold weather. Naturally, curly hair takes a long time to dry, and the last thing you want to do is to go outside with wet hair. Instead, try washing your hair at night. This ensures your pores and cuticles will be closed when before exposing them to the cold air.
2. Wear Protective Styles
Winter is a perfect time for protective styles like mini twists, extensions or braids. Keeping your curls in a protective style can help keep your ends tucked and curls moisturized which will reduce dryness and breakage. If you decide to pair your protective style with a cute scarf or hat don’t forget to wear a satin bonnet underneath.
3. Change Your Moisture Routine
In the winter time, try switching from the LOC method (leave-in, oil, cream) to the LCO method (leave-in, cream, oil). You may find that the LCO method will keep your hair moisturized longer.
4. Deep Condition
Deep conditioning is a key component to keeping your hair moisturized. During the winter you may want to deep condition more frequently (at least 2x per month) to make sure the moisture is reaching beyond the outer layers of your hair. Our fave deep conditioning masque is created by mixing the Dirty Curl Cleansing & Conditioning Clay with the Knotty Nectar Leave-In Conditioner and add a few drops of Flower Bomb Hair Growth Oil. To use apply the mixture to your hair, cover with a plastic cap and sit under a warm dryer for 30 mins. Your hair will feel soft and supple afterwards.
5. Don’t Skip Wash Day
In the summer it’s hot and you sweat a lot and in the the winter it’s cold outside and you don’t sweat as much but that is no reason to skip wash day. Regardless of the weather, your hair attracts dirt and product buildup so skipping a wash day is not an option. In order to keep your scalp and hair healthy don’t use cold weather as a reason to skip your wash day.
